Roxanne and Rolands Wedding Cake.

A wedding cake for a cousin of a friend this time, Roxanne wanted three tiers and for it to go with her colour scheme of ivory, green and blue. I suggested blue roses with green leaves on an ivory cake and thats what I went for. However when it came to the roses the colour seemed pretty lost on the back drop of green leaves, so instead I opted for ivory roses on beds of green leaves. And I think the end result turned out pretty well. (Although I never want to see another green fondant leaf in my life.)

Mark and Kates Wedding Cake.

My cousin Mark and his partner Kate asked me to do their wedding cake, they wanted a really beautifil and simple cake, one fruit tier and one chocolate with swirled and stippled icing. I got to use my shiny new cake stands and Kate put some beautiful flowers on to decorate it.

I was so pleased to be able to do this for them, and they really loved it, which is what counts the most. I also provided a box of cupcakes for the reception. The wedding was an absolutely beautiful day, a fun ceremony, a sunny champagne reception with a brass band playing jazz in the background, and most importantly an amazing gathering of family and friends.

Fiona's 21st Cake

Ok, I'm going to preface this by saying the only clay model's that I've made in the past have been a) of teddy bears, where realness isn't all that needed and b) done with slightly more time to finish them.

This however was a last min cake for my best friend Emma's sister, they were having a toga themed party and wanted a Greek/ancient Romanesq cake, and I attempted two things that were new to me. Firstly making something look like a person and secondly making pletes up the sides of the cake. (sidenote: Holy crap it is hard work to make pletes)

I was fairly pleased with how it turned out (apart from the less that great pletes), since it was done in such little time and from all acounts Fi was happy with it.

Janice's 80th Birthday Cake

This cake was for the 80th birthday of a friend's mum, she wanted a victoria sponge. It's decorated with white sugarpaste, cut out pink sugarpaste letters and piped sugarpaste detail. With a few pink balls for prettiness.

The cake was the lady's first ever birthday cake and she was really overjoyed with it.

Whole Orange Cake

I had an over abundance of oranges this week, so went hunting for a recipe to use them up. This is what the wonderful google machine found for me:

2 Large Oranges
250g (9oz) Ground Almonds
25g (9oz) Caster Sugar
6 Large Eggs
1tsp Baking Powder

Pre-heat over to Gas Mark 5, and grease a 20cm cake tin.

Cover the oranges with water and bring to the boil, then simmer for 1 hour. Then remove and leave to cool.

Chop into piece, removing all of the pips and puree in a food processor. Blend in the eggs and then add the dry ingredients, transfer into the tin and cook for 45mins-1 hour. Until golden on top.

I found that the inside of the cake was very moist, but very delicious. I topped the cake with a chocolate gnash, and everyone seemed to enjoy it a great deal.

Bob's 50th Birthday Cake

50th Birthday cake for Bob, made with plain sponge, jam and buttercream. Decorated with hand coloured fondant, and piped royal icing letters. I had a few issues with the royal icing, but I think I am finally getting the hang of it, I definitely need to start trusting my instincts on when its at the right consistency. All in all it turned out alright though.

Over view of cake.
Close up on edge detailing.

Close up of 'H' and edge decoration.
