Sarah's 18th Birthday Cake

Sarah asked me to make her an 18th cake in the shape on the numbers 1 and 8, decorated with pink hearts and blue stars.

Had a few problems with this one, as the cake tins I hired didn't really match up, so they look a little odd on the cake board, and the fondant did not want to be nice and plyable, no matter how long I spent kneeding it, and on top of that my buttercream frosting went so hard that it would hardly stick the fondant to the cake. It ended up looking alright, but my lord are those numbers difficult to ice.

Spring Cake

I made this cake recently by request of some friends, and it was quickly demolished by a houseful of ravenous students.

This spring cake features ducks, flowers and carrots all made from fondant. The cake was a ginger cake with strawberry frosting, and turned out very tasty.

Some side decoration.

Lewis' 3rd Birthday Cake - Lightning McQueen

For my cousin Lewis' 3rd birthday I wanted to go all out (despite the fact that I'd made 4 cakes in 3 days) and try some cake sculpture.

As he had demanded a racing car, I went for a Lightning McQueen design - to match the ace motorised Lightning car he got for his birthday.

Made from chocolate cake and chocolate butter cream, decorated with red ready coloured fondant.

Leanne's 21st Birthday Cakes

For my sisters 21st birthday, I made her two cakes that I knew she would really love, a me2you bear and a VW Campervan. Both made out of chocolate sponge with chocolate butter cream and then decorated with fondant and food colouring.

The me2you bear took roughly forever to texture, but came out really well and a few people said they thought it was an actually me2you bear stuck on top (flattery is always pleasant to hear).

Lea and her friends were incredibly impressed with the camper van cake and bemoaned having to cut it up. Towards the end of the night the teddy did end up being transformed into a T-Rex by an unnamed drunken party goer, but by that time we were all a little to tipsy to care.

Alex's Chelsea FC Cake

Football cake number 3. This was done for my cousin Alex, chocolate sponge with chocolate frosting, covered with white fondant.

This time I made the logo out of royal icing, for my first attempt with royal icing it went quite well, unfortunately the logo cracked a little while being transferred (as you can see in picture 2) but still looked good, Alex was impressed with it anyway.

Picnic Cupcakes

Here are some cupcakes that I made with my new pretty silicone cupcake cases (thank you Kam and Jo) for a picnic with my cousins and a friend.

Made with a normal sponge recipe, and using the leftover pink fondant from Chelsea's cake.

The kids were really impressed with them, and had a great time scoffing the icing.

Chelsea's 16th Birthday Cake

This cake was my first large scale order, its a three tier pink and black birthday cake for a 16th birthday party, hand made from top to bottom with hand coloured (and kneeded, boy did my arms ache) fondant.

Aunt Carols Birthday Cake

A birthday cake I made for my Aunt Carol, also to practice draping fondant and flower making.

Evies Christening Cake

This is a cake I made for my god-daughters christening.

Although I was unhappy with how the pink icing started to run (as can be seen around the edges) the cake itself turned out really well.

The patchwork squares and symbols were cut out of hand coloured fondant, and the bunny was really cute. This is the first time that I attempted to make the frilly edges on the bib, but they also turned out well.

Lessons learned from this one, never use anything but butter when making butter cream, as marg/butter substitutes seem to not hold their structure at all.

Christine's Birthday Celebration Cake

This cake was for a birthday party for my Aunt Christine, sponge with jam and cream filling.

The glasses were molded with fondant and painted with luster dust, and then dots/swirls pipping was added.

Barry's 21st Birthday Cake - SWFC Shirt Cake

This cake was done for my sisters boyfriend Barry's 21st.

The badge was lovingly and painstakingly cut out by Lea, and the rest of the cake is iced in blue and white fondant, around the edges are cake balls, covered in fondant.

The cake was chocolate with chocolate frosting, and was a crowd pleaser with all the lads at the party (well apart from all the Sheffield United supporters that were there).

Grandads 65th Birthday Cake - Fishing Scene

This next cake was for my Grandads 65th Birthday/Retirement party, for about 70 people.

Its chocolate/chocolate frosting. The water is blue coloured buttercream and the grass/everything else is made from fondant/sugar paste.

I have to say that my grandad loved the cake, especially the little fish but my lettering has definitely bettered over the last 5 months since then.

Karl's Birthday Cake - Sheffield Wednesday Badge Cake

This is the second cake that I made, its a chocolate cake covered in chocolate butter cream and iced with white fondant.

The Sheffield Wednesday FC badge was hand cut from blue coloured fondant, and finished with a blue ribbon.

The badge was incredibly difficult to cut out, but well worth the effort.

1st cake - Charlotte's Princess Castle Cake

This is my first attempt at cake decorating, for my cousin Charlotte's 5th birthday party.

Its two sponge layers, each sandwiched with jam and butter cream, and the turrets are also completely made of small circles of cake, wrapped in fondant/sugar paste.

All of the decorations are hand coloured, crafted or piped.

The kids definitely loved it, and I've been told that what was left was fed to big strong burly welders who enjoyed the cake very much.
